What was lost with the end of US democracy, human rights, and governance assistance?

The early 2025 termination of most US governmental support for development aid has been a major shock to the global community. The ending of all democracy, human rights, and governance (DRG) has generated less attention than humanitarian aid and global health concerns; however, it is particularly worrisome given the globe’s already prolonged period of democratic backsliding. This research agenda is beginning with a sectoral focus on the impact of ending support for independent media. Stay tuned for findings.
